Our Top 5 Things to Do at Christmas in London 2018

Yes, it’s that wonderful time of year again. Before you know it you’ll be around the Christmas tree, opening presents and bickering about vegetables. Don’t let it pass by in a flash, take full advantage of the holiday season with the most festive experiences in London.

Winter Festivals

Christmas festivals take over the city this time of year. Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park is probably the most popular, but you’d be missing out if you left it just there. The Winter Forest in Broadgate Circle is beautiful with 300 snow covered Christmas Trees, but if you want something edgier, with fewer tourists, then Winterville in Clapham and Skylight at Tobacco Dock are a great shout. Just make sure you wrap up, because without the right clothing it’ll be as pleasant as coal in your stocking.

Ice Skating

Is there anything more festive than ice skating? Hot spots like Canary Wharf, The Natural History Museum, The Tower of London and Alexandra Palace have all frozen over. So, what are you waiting for? Get your skates on (literally!) and let your inner Torvill and Dean run free.

Mulled Wine

The smell of mulled wine is absolutely wonderful in the winter. There is nothing better than the spices filling your nose and the hot cup warming your hands. It won’t be too difficult to find some around London. But, if you can, stop at the George Inn, Borough. This listed pub and its cosy corners are the ideal places to hibernate ’til springtime.

Christmas Lights & Trees

Christmas decorations can get out of hand, but we’re still excited by lights and trees popping up in the capital. This year, Carnaby Street have lit up the sky with a neon tribute to Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. Not a Freddie fan? A walking tour of the W1 lights is a great way to spend an evening or just a good break from Christmas Shopping. As for the trees, Trafalgar Square, Claridges and the Victoria and Albert Museum, will get you rockin’ round them in no time.

Carol Concerts and Shows

No winter would be complete without some carols. This year, ‘A Christmas Carol’ is running at the Old Vic in Southwark, but if you’re itching for something more traditional then the Royal Albert Hall Christmas festival and St Paul’s Cathedral are the ones you’ll enjoy. For something more wild, grab a ticket for the Battersea Dogs and Cats home concert where the furry friends can come along too – it’s absolutely woof-erful!
