Why We Love Notting Hill

Never mind what Elvis Costello said about ‘she’, Notting Hill will be the face you can’t forget. It’s one of the prettiest areas in London, it’s always full of life AND it’s been featured in one of our favourite films, Notting Hill. Just like Southwark, we regularly like to take time out here: drinking coffee, eating food and strolling down the streets. So here’s our guide to making the most out of it and why you should rent an Airbnb here.

Portobello Road & Market

The market on Portobello Road is one of Notting Hill’s greatest assets. It attracts people by the bucket load; people on the hunt for antiques, vintage clothing and trinkets. The main market is on a Friday and Saturday, but there’s a smaller market from Monday to Thursday too. It’s got a great atmosphere and it’s the best place to test out those haggling skills.

We Can Live Out Our Fave Movie

Hugh Grant and his floppy hair really put Notting Hill on the map. We tour the filming locations more often than we like to admit. The bookshop at 13-15 Blenheim Crescent, the flat with the blue door at 280 Westbourne Park Road and the Coronet Cinema at 103 Notting Hill Gate are all a must see.

Walk the Streets

Notting Hill is breathtakingly beautiful; everywhere you turn there is a picture perfect street, house or mews to gaze at. There is nothing better than a walk around these streets when the sun’s out. If you want some kind of direction then head for Ladbroke Walk, Horbury Mews and St. Luke’s Mews, but be warned, it’s going to feel a lot like love.

Fill up in the Restaurants and Cafes

It probably won’t knock you off your seat when we tell you Notting Hill is full of fantastic places to eat and drink, but we thought we’d mention it anyway. We love to hop from place to place and we are rarely disappointed. After something fancy? The Ledbury is Michelin Star and the Valentina offers artisan meats and cheese – they’re delightful.

Electric Cinema

The Electric was saved from being turned into a bingo hall in the 80’s, so we’re lucky the films are still rolling. This building still has some of its original features and the architecture is just as entertaining as the movies, maybe even more so, depending on what you’re watching.

Museum of Brands

Take a step back in time and learn all about consumer history in the Museum of Brands. There is packaging from as far back as the 1800s. It’s a fun visit for the whole family and a great way to wrap up any afternoon (sorry about the awful pun, we couldn’t resist).
