Southwark: The New Kid on the Block

This week, we want to put Southwark under the spotlight. Not only is it home to our newest and trendiest holiday let on Airbnb, but it’s one of our favourite places to hang out. From buzzing markets, to riverside walks, to brilliant galleries, there is so much to see in Southwark. We just know you’re going to fall head over heels for it too!

Shop for Groceries in Borough Market

Borough Market is a thriving place located at the gateway to South London. It attracts thousands of visitors each year and is always full of atmosphere. You can easily spend an hour or so hopping from stall to stall, experiencing free samples of fresh and local produce. If you want to skip the crowds, then visit on a weekday around 10am. You’ll find some of the best truffle oils around and if you’re into your sweet stuff then the fudge stall is where it’s at!

Experience Modern Art at the Tate

The gigantic Tate Modern is always worth a visit. This huge industrial building has an abundance of exhibitions, a great cafe and a souvenir shop. If you’re brave enough, take the lift to the viewing platform where you’ll be rewarded with views of London and some swanky apartments to have a peep into – but you didn’t hear that from us ok?! We don’t want to get a reputation for being nosy.

Hit the High Street

There’s loads of fun to be had where London Bridge and Borough High Street collide, especially if you’re on the hunt for a quick sandwich, a strong coffee or a slap up meal. It’s also home to The Breakfast Club, where you can feast on pancakes and milkshakes. Just a few moments away, you can stumble upon Flat Iron Square, a hub of street food, live music and vintage markets on the weekend. If you fancy a bit of a view then get yourself to the bridge for a picturesque look at London and its H20. Lastly, take a stroll through the Union Street arches for quirky cafes, fine food and a glass or wine or pint to quench your thirst. Oh, and did we mention our Southwark holiday home is just a stone’s throw away?

Stroll Along the Southbank at Night

Walking along the Southbank is beautiful any time of the day, but at night it’s particularly special (dare we say romantic). It feels picture perfect seeing the Capital sparkling across the river. If you get peckish (or a bit cold) there are loads of restaurants to dive into, but if you want to guarantee a riverside seat then do some research and book ahead – it’ll be worth it.

Spend an Afternoon in Bermondsey

Bermondsey holds a very special place in our hearts, this area is just adorable. It has the beauty of being centrally located but still relatively quiet and peaceful. Bermondsey Street is lined with traditional pubs, restaurants, boutiques and it even has two museums to pop into the White Cube and the Fashion and Textile Museum. The park is perfect on a summers day for stretching your legs or having a picnic. It’s so blissful here you’ll never want to leave.
