A colossal shake-up is right the horizon for the UK private rental market. The now-familiar AST, the backbone of the market, is set to be outlawed entirely in the new 2025 Renters’ Rights Bill. The AST (or Assured Shorthold Tenancy) offered the advantage of fixed-term, guaranteed income for landlords. Alongside it, Section 21 provided flexibility and a quick route to repossess properties. From Spring 2025, these will be no more. The nature of private renting in the UK is about to become unrecognisable, with no-fault evictions outlawed and rolling contracts made mandatory. It’s hardly controversial to argue that the world today is as connected as it’s ever been. Increasingly common is the visual form, first with the rise of the Pinterest board and Instagram, and more recently with the boom of TikTok and video-heavy apps. For people looking for inspiration in creating a unique London home, these platforms offer endless ideas. What’s happened isn’t just the mass amalgamation of information, as the harbingers of the Internet age promised. Interior design styles, too, have undergone a worldwide convergence. When I get to Warwick Avenue,Meet me by the entrance of the Tube… The opening lines of Duffy’s 2008 top-three hit still loom large in the British public consciousness. Songwriting legend has it that the Welsh songstress, bemused by her first encounter with the Tube, accidentally took the Bakerloo Line in the wrong direction from Paddington. Although Duffy undoubtedly had studio sessions or A&R meetings to attend elsewhere, Warwick Avenue is incidentally well worth a deliberate visit. It’s the home of Little Venice, where […]
Primrose Hill, a beautiful and highly desirable corner of North London, hasn’t always been the charming neighbourhood we know it as today. Like most of our city, its history belies the quaint and quirky neighbourhood shops and eateries dotted around the area. In fact, it stretches back well into previous millennia. Despite its almost too-ideal location, with iconic 360-degree views across town, the eponymous hill existed long before there was even a city to gaze upon. This is no Marble Arch Mound (remember that?) – nature already had it covered. In fact, prior to human development, this hill was covered […]
London is known for being an expensive city, but it doesn’t always have to be. Some of the best attractions here are actually free to visit – and South Kensington is the best place to explore them. There are plenty of things to do – and none of them will break the bank. Head over to the Natural History Museum for awe-inspiring, life-size encounters with creatures both pre-historic and modern. The Victorian gothic revival entry hall is sure to take your breath away, whilst the vast number of interactive exhibits will keep you, and all the family, entertained for hours. […]
