You’ve arrived and settled in. Now it’s time to start thinking about food. Lucky for you, there is an abundance of fabulous restaurants in London, but when you’re this spoilt for choice it’s hard to know what to go for. Read on to discover Stay and Escape‘s favourite fine dining spots in this special city.
L’Affaire, Wandsworth Town
L’Affaire offers beautiful French food in a rustic setting. This handsomely renovated restaurant can be found pride of place, just on Wandsworth High Street. Inside you can dine on wooden tables under a stunning glass roof. Plus, if the weather is playing ball, then there is a modern beer garden to make the most of. The Saturday brunch and Sunday roast are a great way to spend the weekend, but if you’re going for the a la carte, then the barbary duck breast is just quacking!

Odette’s, Primrose Hill
Since first opening in 1978, Odette’s has developed a strong reputation for outstanding food. For the past 10 years, it’s been in the hands of owner and chef, Bryn Williams. The menus change with the seasons, so the produce is always fresh and locally sourced. The venison, however it’s served, is always outstanding. We would highly recommend booking ahead for a seat in the main restaurant. If you really want a night to remember, there’s room for six at the kitchen table, where you can watch the chefs cook and experience the 8-course tasting menu.

Wright Brothers, Borough Market, Southwark
Calling all captains of the sea: if you’re a fan of all things seafood, then this cosy oyster and seafood bar will be right up your canal. Since 2002, the Wright brothers-in-law have made it their mission to get fantastic fresh oysters into the mouths of many. Live like a sailor and take a seat at the beer barrel tables, tuck into shellfish platters and guzzle down some draught beer. However, if that doesn’t quite help you find your sea legs, take the 2-hour oyster masterclass; you’ll learn all about their health benefits, sample oysters from across the world and expel some oyster myths.

Quirinale, Westminster
This airy and light Italian is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon or evening. It’s hard not to feel uplifted when you’re surrounded by sand coloured walls, delicate music and the smell of fresh pasta bubbling away in the kitchen. Named after Rome’s Presidential Palace, you’ll certainly feel ready to rule after tasting the wine here; the list is impressive and extensive, with many available by the glass or carafe. As for the Italian food, it looks just as incredible as it tastes.
Ottolenghi, Notting Hill
Since 2002, this Mediterranean influenced deli, run by chef, food writer and restaurant owner, Yotam Assaf Ottolenghi, has been impressing the masses. If you’re lucky enough to find a table here (it seats only 10), then you’re in for a treat. Don’t fancy eating in? They deliver and you can take away. Everything is freshly made, seasonal and free from preservatives. Ottolenghi strives to make people happy through food, and yes, the buttery pastries and fresh salads will definitely get you smiling from ear to ear.
